AGERPRES National News Agency, the first news agency in Romania has, over time, been named The Telegraphic Agency of Romania or The Romanian Agency, Orient-Radio – RADOR Romanian Telegraphic Agency, AGERPRES Romanian News Agency, ROMPRES National News Agency and again AGERPRES National News Agency from 2008.
Romanian National News Agency AGERPRES becomes, as of January, Associated Press (AP) photographs distributor, having the right to resell the photographs to all publications in Romania. The object of this partnership is "AP Images Archive", a platform including hundreds of thousands of topical and historic photos, illustrating daily the most important pieces of news worldwide, as well as "AP European Photostream."
The Romanian National News Agency AGERPRES will launch, on November 30, one month after the Colectiv Club fire, an editorial project dedicated to the victims of the tragedy, which can be followed on our news flows and on the www.agerpres.ro public website.
The best photos captured between July 2014 - August 2015 by the photographers of the Romanian National News Agency AGERPRES were exhibited in the OANA-Yonhap Press Photo Exhibition 2015, organized at the headquarters of the South Korean Press Agency Yonhap, in Seoul, between November 15-18, 2015.
The General Assembly of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) elected as member of its Board Alexandru Giboi, general director of AGERPRES, in an unanimous vote on Friday. It was a first at EANA for a representative of Romania's national news agency.
Alexandru Giboi was the only nominee of six EANA member agencies — Bulgaria's BTA, Cyprus's CNA, Georgia's GHN, Azerbaijan's AzerTac, Greece's ANA-MPA and Ukraine's Ukrinform — for the EANA leadership; he was proposed by BTA general director Maxim Minchev.
Director General of Romania's National News Agency AGERPRES Alexandru Giboi, accompanied by Romania's representative to the UN Ion Jinga on Thursday met UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson in New York.
Their conversation focused on the Middle East conflicts as well as ways in which the situation of migrants may be improved, with Eliasson underscoring the need for peaceful solutions to all conflicts and UN involvement in conflict resolution.
AGERPRES National News Agency Director General Alexandru Giboi attended the 24th General Assembly meeting of the Association of the Balkan News Agencies of Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE) themed 'Twenty years of ABNA - Challenges and Opportunities' held in Sarajevo, on which occasion he voiced his support for a future candidacy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina News Agency (FENA) to become a member of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA).

The Senate and the Chamber of Deputies adopt on April 15 and June 24, 2008, respectively, the proposal to modify law No. 19/2003 regarding the organization and functioning of the ROMPRES National News Agency, christening it once again AGERPRES.
The AGERPRES correspondents’ network is enlarged through the establishment of new offices in Rome, Madrid and Chisinau.
AGERPRES is granted ISO certification for the Quality, Environment, Health and Occupational security management systems for the following three years, becoming the first press agency in Romania to hold SR EN ISO 9001:2001, SR EN ISO 14001:2005 şi OHSAS 18001:2004 certification.

ROMPRES/AGERPRES National News Agency is affiliated to the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) and becomes a member of the Association of the Balkan News Agencies - Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE).
On June 19, the informatics news system of the National News Agency is launched, the system was built in Romania with the help of France and PIDC/UNESCO and with the technical support of Agence France-Press (AFP) and LOGIPRESS.
Through a press release, beneficiaries of AGERPRES news bulletins were informed that “beginning with January 2, 1990, 12:00 hours, Romanian News Agency AGERPRES ceases its activity. From this moment on you are in touch with and will receive your news from ROMPRES News Agency”.
Officially, ROMPRES was established through a decree signed by the President of the Council of the National Salvation Front Ion Iliesc on January 8, 1990.
Journalists from AGERPRES issued the following press release:
“Romanian Press Agency – AGERPRES has no further need for special approval from the censors to transmit false stands and national attitudes with no real basis. Together with the entire central and nation-wide press, radio, television and all mass-media, AGERPRES will fulfill its duty and will inform in an honest, fair and civilized manner the entire public opinion inside and outside the country on the events that happen in Romania and in the world. We will offer to the press, to all international news agencies a complete and honest view on all Romanian events. We mention that this text was written by journalists of the Romanian News Agency that at no time lost their professional conscience, the same journalists that until yesterday were forced to distort reality and systematically misinform the internal and international public opinion”.
Through a decree of the Council of Ministers the establishment of the Romanian Press Agency attached to the Council of Ministers, abbreviated AGERPRES, through the takeover of personnel and patrimony belonging to RADOR.
The Parliament of Romania approves the Law regarding the reorganization and functioning of RADOR – Telegraphic Information Agency.
June 16 – the date on the Act to establish the ‘Orient-Radio’ agency that sought to continue the activity of the Romanian Agency.
“The information that we will broadcast will be collected with utmost care and scrupulousness, checked so that they are rigorously exact, impartial and honest. It will not submit to the service of any political tendency, person or party, caring only for the general interest and that of its subscribers” an excerpt of the document shows. On the proposal of Foreign Minister Take Ionescu the Government authorizes, in its meeting on August 15, 1921, the signing of a contract with the ‘Orient-Radio’ agency.
January 24 (O.S.) / February 5, 1899 - Minister P.P. Carp requests the General Directorate of Telegraphs and Post Offices to offer the Romanian Telegraphic Agency, that was undergoing organization, “a large room in the houses they occupy”.
March 15 (O.S.)/27, 1889 – The Telegraphic Agency was established on the initiative of Foreign Minister P. P. Carp, the first ‘Romanian, national and autonomous’ press agency. It was subordinated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and had the duty to ‘rapidly dispatch news abroad regarding Romania’ and from there to receive and broadcast ‘a quick and exact service of general or special interest news for Romania’.
The Romanian Agency functioned until near the end of 1916, when it ceased operations temporarily due to the fact that our country was in the midst of a World War.
March 30 (O.S.) / April 11, 1899 – The Romanian News Agency casts its first press telegram.
