Bucharest, July 23 /Agerpres/ - Mugur Isarescu and Victor Ponta are the public persons commanding the highest degree of public confidence in Romania, according to an Inscop Research poll commissioned by daily Adevarul.
According to the poll, first the ranking is Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Mugur Isarescu, with 41.2 per cent of much and very much confidence. He is followed by incumbent Prime Minister and national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Victor Ponta (37.3 per cent) and national leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Klaus Iohannis (35.9 per cent).
Third in the public confidence ranking is Bucharest General Mayor Sorin Oprescu (32.4 per cent), followed by the national leader of the Liberal Reforming Party (PLR) Calin Popescu Tariceanu (27.8 per cent) and former PSD national leader and foreign minister Mircea Geoana (26.6 per cent), according to the findings of the Inscop barometer released on Wednesday.
Non-affiliated MEP Mircea Diaconu commands the much and very much confidence of 22.9 per cent of the respondents, followed by Director of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) George Maior (22.8 per cent); First Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) Mihai Razvan Ungureanu (21.8 per cent); Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) Teodor Melescanu (21 per cent); President Traian Basescu (19.2 per cent); former PNL national leader Crin Antonescu (19.1 per cent), and former two-term President Ion Iliescu (18.7 per cent).
The poll also reveals that MEP and a former prime minister Teodor Stolojan of PDL secured 17.3 per cent of much and very much confidence; national leader of the Greater Romania Party (PRM) Corneliu Vadim Tudor was next, with 14.9 per cent; PDL's Catalin Predoiu, 13.7 per cent; PSD Secretary General Liviu Dragnea, with 13.6 per cent; national leader of the People's Movement Party (PMP) Elena Udrea, with 13.4 per cent; former prime minister Emil Boc, with 12.2 per cent; TV journalist and former national leader of the Dan Diaconescu - People's Party (PP-DD) Dan Diaconescu, with 11.4 per cent; national leader of PDL Vasile Blaga, with 8.9 per cent, and national leader of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor, with 6.2 per cent.
The poll was commissioned by daily Adevarul and conducted by INSCOP Research, July 1-6. The sample comprised 1,055 persons and it is representative of Romania's population aged 18 years and above. It carries a maximum error margin of plus/minus 3 per cent and an accuracy rate of 95 per cent, for a probabilistic, multi-strata sample. AGERPRES
