Almost 19.6 ml people registered in Romania's Population and Homes Census

 •  English

A number of 8,387,153 housing units and 19,599,506 persons were registered, October 20-31, in this year's Housing and Population Census, according to operative information sent by SMS to the National Statistics Institute (INS) from the 3,180 surveyed localities and six Bucharest sectors.

INS said that the number of registered persons does not equal Romania's stable population, because the persons who resorted to self-registration, those living in collective living facilities (like hostels or hotels), and the persons surveyed through the structures of the Ministry of National Defence, the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of the Interior, are not included in this figure.

The persons who left the country on the long term (who were declared by their family in the country) are not included in this figure either.

"So, any comparison between the information released Tuesday and the official data on Romania's stable population as shown by the previous censuses conducted in 1992 or 2002, is irrelevant," said INS.

The first results of the Population and Homes Census will be published at the end of January 2012.AGERPRES
