Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca welcomed the decision of the European Council to grant Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova the status of candidate countries for accession to the European Union, stressing that Romania will stand together with the citizens of the two states and of Georgia in their European path.
"I welcome the historic decision of the European Council. Romania will stand together with the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia on their European path," Nicolae Ciuca wrote on Thursday evening in a post on the Government's Facebook page.
The heads of state and government of the European Union granted on Thursday to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova the status of candidate countries for joining the community club, after last week the European Commission made a recommendation in this regard, the international news agencies inform.
