The song composed by Ilie Stepan, "Timisoara, Timisoara," on a text written by Marian Odangiu, which became the Anthem of the December 1989 Revolution and then the official anthem of the municipality, is turning 32 on Monday.

On December 20, 1989, Ilie Stepan sang from the Balcony of the Timisoara Opera House, in front of over 100,000 people, on the day when the people of Timisoara declared the capital of Banat as the first city free of communism, the Banat History Museum mentions on its official website.

"That evening I sang in the Balcony "Awaken, thee, Romanian!' and "The Union Ring Dance Song". I borrowed a guitar from a friend. The dictatorship was still in power, but the city was free!," said Ilie Stepan.

Everything he experienced during the days of the Revolution, the experience from the Balcony of the Opera, the emotional charge, the way people responded are found in this composition.

"100,000 people sang and shouted, 'Freedom.' The song was born in 10-15 minutes. It's the only piece I couldn't make changes to. It's perfect in its own way, in terms of emotion, in terms of feeling," adds Stepan.

The song "Timisoara, Timisoara" was written on December 27, 1989, the theme, the song and the chorus belonging to Ilie Stepan, and the text to writer Marian Odangiu. It was printed on January 8, in the TVR Timisoara studio, and on December 18, 2015, the song officially became the anthem of Timisoara.
