The lawmakers of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) will show up on Wednesday for a joint sitting of Parliament to vote on the Ciolos government, but they will not vote, UDMR floor leader Csoma Botond told AGERPRES on Tuesday.
The decision was made on Tuesday morning, at a joint meeting of the UDMR floor groups.
"We had a joint meeting of the groups from the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies where we made the following decision: we will show up in the chamber for the debates and a vote, but we will not cast a vote. We will be there, but we will not vote - that is the decision of UDMR," said Csoma.
He added that if the Ciolos government does not clear Parliament, UDMR will continue to participate in new consultations. "Of course, we will participate in consultations and see to it that we will have a government as soon as possible. It depends a lot on who the President appoints as prime minister and on the ability of that person to mount a majority in Parliament."
Parliament extends confidence to the government by a majority vote of the MPs and senators. The vote is secret. At least half plus one of the members of the two houses of Parliament must be in attendance.
In order to be sworn in office, the Ciolos government needs 234 ayes in parliament. AGERPRES (RO - author: Catalina Matei, editor: Claudia Stanescu; EN - author: Corneliu-Aurelian Colceriu, editor: Adina Panaitescu)
