National leader of the opposition Social Democratic Party (PSD) Marcel Ciolacu said on Thursday that Dacian Ciolos being nominated as a candidate for prime minister is mockery, calling President Klaus Iohannis "out of touch with reality," "cynical," and "irresponsible."
He added that the right decision is for a government of "apolitical specialists" to manage the COVID-19 pandemic and the economy until early elections.
"Romania has become captive to a gang of irresponsible people, concerned only with positions, money and the satisfaction of their political pride! Never in the modern history of Romania has the rift between those who lead the country and the population been so great. Ciolos being designated when Romanians no longer have a place - in hospitals or even in cemeteries - is mockery that shows how disconnected from reality, how cynical and how irresponsible Iohannis is," Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.
He pointed out that almost 400 Romanians die every day, "after three months ago Iohannis said that he solved the pandemic."
"If the President were to face a family that has lost a grandfather, a mother or a child today, what would he say to them? That he has defeated the pandemic ?! It's too much! I think the time has come for Iohannis to come down among the Romanians, to see their suffering, to see their tears and, at least in the 11th hour, to make a correct decision. A government of apolitical specialists to manage the pandemic and the economy pending early elections! After that much destroying, it is time to start building! The President's duty is to find solutions to the Romanians' problems: the epidemic and the dramatically declining incomes," he said.
