The health crisis triggered by the coronavirus pandemic has greatly influenced the work of European news agencies in terms of working methods, forcing them to make rapid progress in the area of digitisation and the development of a functional online work system, according to statements by directors of some of these media organisations in interviews published on Monday on the website of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA).
Federal News Agency - FENA has responded to the growing need of factual and trustworthy news in Bosnia and Herzegovina with two projects aimed at keeping the information flow functional while also supporting national media with reporting, says Elmir Huremovic, the director general of FENA.
It has launched a special site which only publishes news related to the pandemic and this content is available to everyone on the FENA website. At the same time, in co-operation with the leading telecommunication operator in the country, the fena.live project has been launched, which secures direct livestreaming of the most important events, with minimum presence of reporters and media crews.

FENA has been live streaming press conferences of health and other government representatives since the beginning of the pandemic and delivering the material to all media outlets. All events are also streamed via FENA's Facebook page. The number of videos that FENA produces usually has tripled since the beginning of the epidemic, as well as the number of published articles. We are also much more active on social media - Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, says Huremovic.
''HINA has ironically had the misfortune of being met with two catastrophes simultaneously. (...) During the early stages of the corona pandemic there was a lot of fake news circulating on various platforms as well as a general panic caused by both - the virus and the earthquake,'' says Branka Vojvodic (Croatian News Agency - HINA director general).

HINA is currently in danger of two major financial threats: budget reduction by the state and lower income from the market since their financing relies on both sources almost equally, the Croatian News Agency director also pointed out.
