The government intends, through the existing capabilities in the country, for Romania to be able to provide the necessary equipment and materials in the fight against COVID-19 from its own production, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said on Monday.
"Today we had at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace a meeting with the President of Romania, the main topic of the discussions was to support the initiatives to produce the materials, equipment, devices, substances that are needed in the battle against the coronavirus epidemic. (...) There are capabilities, there are human resources, there are machines that we are able to introduce into manufacturing in Romania, so that we get to produce in Romania as many of these equipment as possible so that we no longer become dependent, especially in a situation such as the current one worldwide, in a fierce competition for each producer, so that we can have the capacity to ensure at least the internal necessities form our own production," said Ludovic Orban, at the Government meeting.
In addition, the Minister of Economy, Virgil Popescu, announced that at a factory in Maramures began the production of protective masks, with a production capacity of 150 thousand masks per day and "from April 15 we will have a production of 500 thousands of masks a day for the population and 150 thousand masks a day for hospitals (...) and, in parallel, they also produce 1,000 overalls a day, for the area of hospitals, for medics, nurses, stretcher bearer, on the front line."
At the same time, he specified that the same production capacities will be taken at ROMARM to ensure the strategic reserve, by producing the same quantity of materials - "500 thousand masks for the population and 150 thousand for hospitals", and a manufacturer from Galati will produce, as of April 15, 150 thousand masks daily."AGERPRES(RO - author: Daniel Florea, editor: Georgiana Tanasescu; EN - author: Simona Iacob, editor: Maria Voican)
