The censure motion titled "Enough! Dragnea - Dancila Government, shame of Romania!," initiated by the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Save Romania Union (USR) and the People's Movement Party (PMP), was filed with Parliament on Friday.
The document is signed by 163 MPs.
The joint standing bureaus are going to set the debate procedure.
According to the regulations of the joint activity of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, the censure motion, initiated by at least one third of the total number of deputies and senators, is presented to the standing bureaus and communicated to the Government by the Chamber Speaker the day it is filed.
The censure motion is presented in a joint session of the two Chambers in maximum 5 days since its lodging. The debate on the censure motion takes place 3 days after it is presented in the joint meeting of the two Chambers.
The date and venue of the joint sitting, as well as the invitation to participate are communicated to the Government by the Chamber of Deputies Speaker 24 hours prior to it. For the adoption, the vote of 233 MPs is required. The voting is secret, with balls.
"The puppet government of the criminally prosecuted Dragnea must leave today! This is not a request of the Opposition, but a national urgency! The organised crime group, headed by Liviu Dragnea, who took over Romania's leadership, has weakened the state, in order to subdue it, at a moment when we need to be stronger than ever. We strongly and in all responsibility state that it is dangerous for the national interests for the country to remain in the hands of this organised crime group, which is destroying the rule of law and dynamiting Romania's political and economic stability, at a moment of international instability. Those who will try to save Liviu Dragnea again, against Romania, will bear a historical responsibility. Because the choice you will be making today, ladies and gentlemen of the PSD [Social Democratic Party], ALDE [Alliance of Liberals and Democrats] and UDMR [Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania], is between Liviu Dragnea and Romania," the censure motion texts reads, among others.
The Opposition parliament members reproach PM Viorica Dancila that all the commitments of the governance programme have been postponed after 2021.
The Opposition also accuses "the mistreat of the justice system, which is a bump in the road for the PSD leaders."
The signatories of the motion make a call on their colleagues of Parliament in the end: "The favourable vote for the censure motion isn't a vote for the initiators or one based on political colours! It is a vote for Romania, for saving the country from the claws of thieves and incompetents, who are draining it of resources and are impoverishing the population. Prove that you want lie and imposture be removed from Romanian politics! prove that you want Romania to be represented next year in the EU Council by a government and ministers we should not be ashamed of and the country be saved from a predictable economic collapse!."
