President Klaus Iohannis on Friday sent a message on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the recognition of religious freedom in Transylvania through the Edict of Turda in January 1568, in which he shows that "religious freedom and tolerance are fundamental pillars of humanity."

"It is 450 years since the Turda proclamation, for the first time in the world, of religious freedom. For all those who believe in our spiritual fulfillment, this anniversary transmits a particularly important message: religious freedom and tolerance are fundamental pillars of humanity," says Iohannis in this message, shows a press release of the Presidential Administration, sent to AGERPRES.

According to the head of state, freedom of conscience and religious tolerance are historical achievements of our society, obtained, developed and defended with sacrifices.

"Our future as a nation entails the tolerant fructification of diversity, and it is backed on these values of European humanism, which we all share," Iohannis transmitted.AGERPRES(RO - author: Madalina Cerban, editor: Florin Marin; EN - Bogdan Gabaroi, editor: Maria Voican)
