The Liberals want Interior Minister Carmen Dan ousted from office and also demand the resignation of the head of the Romanian Police, asking PM Mihai Tudose to initiate the procedure to dismiss IntMin Dan, Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban said on Thursday.
"PNL demands the resignation of the head of the Police General Inspectorate, who obviously must pay for having kept in place subordinates who tolerated the presence in the system not only of the paedophile [officer], but of many other cases that keep surfacing. At the same time we imperatively demand the resignation of the Minister of the Interior. because it is not possible to run an institution as long as the PM does not accept your nominee for head of the General Police Inspectorate. We are asking Prime Minister Tudose to no longer lament in the studios of a friendly TV station where the hosts don't ask him any uneasy questions, and initiate instead the procedure for the dismissal of the Interior Minister, and if he doesn't proceed to this, let him go home because in any civilized country, a Premier who is incapable of sacking a recalcitrant minister who does not submit to the PM's authority goes home without waiting to be dismissed. I am convinced he will do this even without our asking for this, because [PSD leader] Dragnea is already working on how to send Tudose home," Orban told a press conference.
"It's incredible what the Social Democratic Party (PSD) has been able to do in one year. PNL cautions that we are on the brink of a new political crisis. Instead of tending to governing the country, the PSD-ALDE-UDMR majority coalition is busy with completely different activities, we are witnessing a mafia-style reckoning among clans, in the battle to get control over public institutions, over political levers, and not in the least an activity to the benefit of the citizens. While the gas price rises, while the domestic leu goes downwards, while salaries not only don't grow, but decrease in high numbers, while the inflation rate is headed for 4 pct and Romania's external image collapses due to the catastrophic PSD governing, two police rednecks - Dragnea of Teleorman and his Braila counterpart - are battling to get the Ministry of Internal Affairs into their grip, as the PSD has always done," Orban said.
He went on to say that the Romanian citizens are in danger, because the institution that should take care of their safety has no longer a management at its helm.
Orban also said that, instead of getting involved in solving this government crisis, PSD Chairman Liviu Dragnea "is touring Moldova in an effort to win over followers, probably for a new dismissal of the government."AGERPRES(RO - author: Florentina Peia, editor: Mihai Simionescu; EN - author: Simona Klodnischi, editor: Maria Voican)
