Romania's Halep still topping WTA singles ranking; compatriot Buzarnescu jumps to number 89

Romanian Simona Halep is still ranked first in the official singles rankings of the WTA featuring the world's top ranked players in women's professional tennis, released on Monday, while her compatriot Mihaela Buzarnescu has made it to the top 100 players for the first time in her career, jumping to number 89.

Halep is WTA number one for the second consecutive week, with a 40-point lead over second-ranked Garbine Muguruza and 570 points ahead of Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic).

Romania has four more players among the world's top 100 players: Sorana Cirstea at 37; Irina Begu, who has jumped a place to number 56; Monica Niculescu at 66, after dropping five positions, and Mihaela Buzarnescu, on 89, after a 16-position surge following her advancing to the Linz Open semi-finals.

In the WTA doubles ranking, Romania has four representatives in the world's top 100: Monica Niculescu at 20; Raluca Olaru at 37; Irina Begu at 38, after a nine-place surge following her win in the women's doubles event at Tianjin, and Mihaela Buzarnescu at 96, up 17 positions after advancing to the Linz Open semi-finals.

In the WTA Porsche Singles Race, Halep is the first, followed by Muguruza 40 points behind and Pliskova, 570 points behind.
