Romania's Halep advances to China Open women's singles semis

 •  English

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, world number two, on Friday advanced to the semi-finals of the women's singles event at the 6,381,679-USD China Open tournament, after defeating Russia's Daria Kasatkina 6-2 6-1.

Second-seed Halep, 26, prevailed in just 69 minutes and thus avenged her loss to Kastkina by the same score in Wuhan the week before.

Halep is now leading 3-1 the head-to-head count with Kasatkina, whom she beat in 2016 in Miami in the second round, 6-3 7-5, and this year in the third round at Roland Garros, 6-0 7-5.

Halep, at her best performance in Beijing, won 310,455 US dollars and 390 WTA singles points. In the semis, Halep will face off the winner between her compatriot Sorana Cirstea and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko.
