Bucharest, Oct 1 /Agerpres/ - The Romanian capital market cannot become emerging without trading Hidroelectrica, and this is not doable now because of the issues that are keeping with the corporate governance and the non-core assets, the CEO and Portfolio Manager of Fondul Proprietatea (FP) Greg Konieczny told AGERPRES.
"We are talking from top to bottom, there is no supervisory board to lead the company to an IPO, there is no long-term board, to father a long-term strategy for the company, and this makes it unsalable right now. Further, it is the non-core assets' issue, Hidroelectrica having investments that were commenced 25-30 years before and not yet finalised and having no trade value. The previous managerial team prepared decisions so that these investments are abandoned, and now there are further discussed upon, with no decision whatsoever," Konieczny said.
In his turn, Johan Meyer, Co-CEO of Franklin Templeton Investments and Portfolio Co-Manager with Fondul Proprietatea says that "it's a shame that these investments were not accomplished, because there was enough time to solve these issues. Meyer adds that it is time to generate this company's maximum value through an IPO.
In connection with the sale announcement of a share the FP holds at Hidroelectrica, he specified that the decision was made because no listing progress is made, and the FP has a responsibility to its shareholders to generate value.
Greg Konieczny completed by saying that the sale process of a share of the participation in Hidroelectrica could find its way parallel with an IPO, and in the end "we shall see if an IPO will bring to our shareholders a higher price for Hidroelectrica or a sale to the private buyers. We could finish by remaining with all of the participation in Hidroelectrica. It depends on the offers we receive from the investors."
The two portfolio managers deems that in the future there will be a company's listing at the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), but only after the two issues in keeping with the corporate governance and the non-core assets are solved.
Fondul Proprietatea analyses the sale of its participation in Hidroelectrica, worth 19.94 pct, says an announcement on BVB website.AGERPRES(RO - author: Florin Barbuta, editor: Mariana Nica; EN - author, editor: Maria Voican)
