Romania Q2 pension statistics: 5.225 million people collecting a monthly average of 1,022 lei

There were 5.225 million pensioners in Romania in Q2 2017, by 9,000 less compared to the previous quarter, collecting an average monthly pension of 1.022 lei, by 0.6 percent higher than in Q1, shows data released on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to official statistics, the average pension under the public social security system was 982 lei.

There are significant regional differences in the average public social security pension, with the gap between the minimum and the maximum value exceeding 450 lei (790 lei in Botosani County, as to 1,247 lei in Bucharest).

Pensioners under the social security system account for an overwhelming 99.9 percent of the total number of pensioners. Pensioners under the public social security system represent 89.5 percent of the total, and old age pensioners account for 75.9 percent of the total in this category. Pensioners in the early and part-time early retirement categories account for 1.9 percent.

The total number of beneficiaries of the Government's Emergency Ordinance No.6/2009 on the establishment of the guaranteed minimum social pension (currently social benefits) was of 1.001 million people in Q2 2017, of whom: 787,700 in the public social security system (representing 16.9 percent of all pensioners in this category); 211,100 people from the former farmers' pension system, representing 55.7 percent of the total; 2,300 persons — accounting for 1.4 percent of this category — collect a military retirement pay.AGERPRES(RO — author: George Bancila, editor: Mariana Nica; EN — author: Simona Klodnischi, editor: Maria Voican; online editor: Maria Voican)
