Bucharest, Aug 12 /Agerpres/ - World No. 2, Romanian tennis player Simona Halep advanced on Saturday to the semifinals of the WTA Rogers Cup in Toronto, after defeating France's Caroline Garcia 6-4, 6-2.
Defending champion Halep claimed the victory in one hour and 11 minutes, securing 122,190 dollars in prize money and 350 WTA points. She is next to play seed No. 5, Ukraine's Elina Svitolina on Saturday evening.
In the 2016 Rogers Cup women's singles final, hosted by Montreal, Halep defeated American Madison Keys 7-6 (2) 6-3, and in the 2015 edition again in Toronto, she retired in the final versus Belinda Bencic at 7-6 (5) 6-7 (4) 3-0 for the Swiss.
