The Romanian seaside is the top tourist attraction this weekend, hosting over 200,000 holidaymakers, Corina Martin, president of the Federation of Romania's Tourism Promotion Associations (FAPT), told AGERPRES.

"More than 200,000 vacationers spend this weekend at the seaside, a tourist honeypot in Romania in the summer season. The top three seaside resorts most in demand are Mamaia, Vama Veche and Eforie. Mamaia is the leader by the number of entertainment events and image, as it continues to raise the standard of its tourist services along with the development of its accommodation capacity running in the tens of thousands in holiday apartments, and causing a significant shift in the image of the resort from a predominantly 2 and 3-star destination to one of 4 — 5 star ranking," Martin said.

The FAPT official considers that this "summer's revelation" is Vama Veche resort, which is in full process of reconstruction.

"And yet, the revelation of summer 2017 is Vama Veche! It's a tourism brand under full reconstruction, a unique concept in Romanian and European tourism. In a first in Romania, all tourist locations — villas, hotels, hostels, terraces, beach bars, etc. — are decorated in flowers and color galore for the first edition of the Flower Power Festival, and there's also the ongoing Vama Libre, a mega-event spanning several weeks. I estimate that in 2 — 3 years Vama Veche will grow into a special destination at European level, that will increasingly capture the attention of Western European tourists and not only," the FAPT official underscored.
