A code orange alert for extremely hot weather has been issued for Friday in six counties located in Western and South-Western Romanian regions, simultaneously with another code yellow alert for hot weather for more counties in Moldavia and Muntenia, including the Bucharest municipality, the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) announced.

Thus, on Friday, August 11, the heat wave is expected to spread to most of the country regions, with lower areas to face an extremely hot weather and a temperature-humidity index (ITU) past the critical threshold of 80 units. Nighttime minimums are expected to stand around 20 degrees, and maybe around 23-25 degrees in the Western Hills.

The code orange for hot weather and thermal discomfort targets the Dolj, Mehedinti, Caras-Severin, Timis, Arad and Bihor counties, where temperatures are expected to frequently reach up to 37-38 degrees Celsius and even 39 degrees in some areas.

Moreover, a code yellow for heat refers to 24 counties in Maramures, northern Crisana and most of Transylvania, northern and eastern Olteania and Muntenia (including the Bucharest municipality) and also southern Moldavia. In these areas, thermal discomfort is expected to increase, with maximums to stand somewhere between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius.

ANM also mentioned that, on Saturday afternoon (August 12), and especially during the night between Saturday and Sunday (August 12-13), the weather will become unstable in the Western, South-Western regions and in the related mountainous areas, to be hit by heavy rainfalls, frequent lightning, storms and hail.
