Eurostat: Romania, EU leader in May industrial production increase

Industrial production in May increased 4 percent in the Euro area (EA19) and the European Union (EU28) compared with the similar period of 2016, and Romania registered the most significant advance, as reveal the data of the European Statistics Office (Eurostat) released on Wednesday.

The highest increases in May industrial production were reported in Romania (14.6 percent), Estonia (12.6 percent) and the Czech Republic (10.7 percent), the only declines being recorded in Malta and the UK (both with minus 0.7 percent).

In May compared to the previous month, industrial production went up 1.2 percent in the European Union and 1.3 percent in the Euro area, after an advance of 0.1 percent in the EU and 0.3 percent in the Euro area in April.

The highest quarterly increases in industrial production in May were reported in Lithuania (3.8 percent), Romania (3.5 percent) and the Czech Republic (3.3 percent), and the most significant declines were recorded in Portugal (minus 1 percent) and Malta (minus 0.9 percent).
