The Social Democratic Party (PSD) leadership voted on Thursday to expel Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu from the party and to file a motion of censure against the Government, Liviu Dragnea, the Social Democrats leader, announced in a press conference at the end of the National Executive Committee's meeting.

The decisions were taken unanimously.
"We had a CExN meeting where we discussed Mr. Sorin Grindeanu's refusal to observe the decision of the two parties — PSD (major at rule) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE — minor at rule). In this context, several colleagues, many of them, proposed the exclusion of Mr. Sorin Grindeanu as member of the PSD, a decision that was unanimously approved, on the basis of the status that grants CExN this competence. At the same time, we took note of the Cotroceni presidential spokesperson's press conference regarding the answer given to the address Mr. Tariceanu and I sent to President Iohannis, informing him about the decisions taken yesterday. As such, PSD made the decision, after consulting with our colleagues from ALDE, to file a censure motion against the Government on Monday, so as to debate and vote it on Wednesday. We did not want this situation, I admit that I and most of my colleagues hoped that after yesterday's decision of CExN in which, unfortunately, Mr. Sorin Grindeanu did not want to participate, the former will understand that these are the democratic rules and that he must hand in his resignation," maintained Liviu Dragnea.
In this sense, he said "PSD made this decision, which it regrets." "But here we are. Had he [Grindeanu] not wished for this political crisis to occur, and to be prolonged by his refusal to leave Victoria Palace, perhaps we could have reached an amicable solution and today we might have been at Cotroceni for consultations, tonight we might have had a candidate for the position of prime minister and we would have set in motion the constitutional procedures for the establishment of a new government," the PSD chairman said.
According to the leader of PSD, based on what was presented in the assessment report of the government's activity, one of the problems that generated this delay is represented by the lack of effective coordination of the ministers' activity, an attribute of the Prime Minister.
"It is the main task (of the Prime Minister — ed.n.) — to coordinate the activity of the ministers and to block all the situations that may cause these delays. I have also discussed with my colleagues today about the resignations of the ministers handed in yesterday, there were PSD ministers at this CExN and I told my colleagues what I did not say yesterday. (...) Unfortunately, in the past two months, most of the ministers, two thirds, came to me and to the party's headquarters, complaining that they were not managing to have a proper, normal communication with the Prime Minister , complaining that there were administrative bottlenecks that the Prime Minister needed to solve. (...) I had several discussions with Mr. Sorin Grindeanu during this time and he assured us that he will take care and adjust these things. (...) There have been many ministers who have long been planning to leave the Government for this reason. We have asked them not to do that, because we hoped we would find a solution so that the Government might work. The most important concern is and will remain that the governing programme be implemented, beyond any discussion," stressed Liviu Dragnea.
