Bucharest, May 18 /Agerpres/ - AGERPRES NewsBot, the first Facebook Messenger NewsBot in Romania, was presented, on Thursday, at the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) conference that took place in Ayia Napa, Cyprus.

"First of all the projects developed was the Facebook Chatbot. Why make a NewsBot? We were considering creating a new app, first of all, and we figured that this would allow us to go multiplatform from the start and have a good user experience on all devices without installing an app," stated developer of the AGERPRES news bot, Constantin Barbu, in the presentation he made.

The AGERPRES News Bot helps Facebook users identify the most important news items of the Agency, in English and Romanian, in an easy, interactive and practical way. Thus, all those who interact with the bot will be able to read, using Facebook Messenger, news from every domain, through a simple search, it being conceived as a dialogue with the user on the most important topics at the moment.

AGERPRES NewsBot is part of the AGERPRES Innovation Lab project, an initiative of the Romanian National News Agency dedicated to the creation of an innovation environment that envisages the testing and implementation of the newest media production and distribution techniques at a national and international level. Among the projects of the AGERPRES Innovation Lab is also the promotion of the institution's photography archive, with a new graphic design and quality content, accessible to the wider audience, but also the promotion of 360 videos. The first 360 video of AGERPRES can be accessed at the link: https://goo.gl/Zkla7j.

During the EANA conference, Romanian National News Agency AGERPRES General Director Alexandru Giboi emphasized the importance of continuous evolution from a technological standpoint of a press agency, while maintaining quality content, that would be permanently accessible to readers.

"We're trying to develop, we're trying to stay in touch with all the technology that is evolving - I'm talking about virtual reality, 360 videos, newsbots. Everything which is new and which can prove to be of value to us in terms of opening up, we want to apply, because being a public news agency means it is important for us to provide the public with the best quality of news and keep the free information level pretty high," Giboi said.

He emphasized the fact that 2016 was the first year in which AGERPRES saw a growth in revenue, of 5 percent as compared to the previous year, especially due to the expansion of the customer base.

The General Director of the Romanian National News Agency AGERPRES is a member in the Board of EANA since September 2015, being elected unanimously, upon the proposal of the General Director of the Austrian Press Agency APA, during the General Assembly taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.

EANA was established on August 21, 1956 following a conference in Strasbourg; it is a cooperation and information exchange forum of 30 European news agencies. Its members promote the observance of copyright, the access to information, the development of information technologies and the freedom of press.AGERPRES (EN - editor: Razvan-Adrian Pandea)
