UK Ambassador to Romania Paul Brummell, attending on Thursday the opening of the Timisoara regional office of the British - Romanian Chamber of Commerce (BRCC), said that Romanians are welcome to Great Britain, underscoring that those who work are doing a good job and the students at British universities are high-performing.

Romanians do a very good job in Great Britain and are welcome. For instance, there are two thousand Romanian doctors working in the British national health service, there are Romanians playing a very important role in the British construction industry and agriculture. There is a growing number of students in British universities, who have great results and are welcome. Not in the last place, I am very happy that many Romanians choose the UK for spending their holidays, the diplomat told the press.

He pointed out that Great Britain's exiting the European Union does not mean that it leaves Europe and that negotiations will follow, the outcome of which he cannot however predict at this moment. We are an open country, Romania is a friend of the UK and I am sure the outcome will be the best for both sides. There will be a negotiation with the conclusion that we will further have a very close and very open relationship between the UK and Romania, Brummell said.

He underscored that Romania is a strategic partner of the UK and that his country is working with Romania particularly in security and prosperity areas, and will continue to do so. For instance, next week I will be in Constanta to visit a British destroyer and welcome, together with my Romanian colleagues, four British fighter jets that will be stationed in Romania to defend the Black Sea area, said the UK Ambassador to Romania.

Referring to UK's ties to Timisoara, Paul Brummell said that there are about one hundred British companies operating in Timis County, but more can be done. Directions of interest for the Romanian-British cooperation cover a broad spectrum, IT is the field with the highest growth rate and there are companies employing thousands in Romania, we have investments in very diverse fields. Our presence in Timis ranges from companies specializing in translation into various languages to the Recas Winery, specializing in wine technology, we have a substantial number of companies in many areas, said the British Ambassador.

Director of the Timis Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture Florica Chirita said that the opening of the BRCC regional office will help tighten and develop bilateral relations.AGERPRES(RO — author: Otilia Halunga, editor: Diana Dumitru; EN — author: Simona Klodnischi, editor: Maria Voican; online editor: Maria Voican)
