Bucharest, April 20 /Agerpres/ - Romanian gymnast Marian Dragulescu on Wednesday qualified to the mens floor and vault finals of the ongoing European Individual Gymnastics Championships in Cluj-Napoca.

Multiple world and European medallist Dragulescu put up a winning performance in the floor event, with judges awarding him 14.666 points, the second best score in the qualifications. In the vault event, Dragulescu got 14.666 points, the best score of the qualifications.

The 2016 European floor and vault runner-up Dragulescu will be the only Romanian gymnast to compete in the mens apparatus finals, as the other five, Cristian Bataga, Vlad Cotuna, Adelin Kotrong, Andrei Ursache and Laurentiu Nistor have failed to advance. Romania will not be competing in the mens all-around final as none of the six gymnasts ran in each apparatus event.

The 7th European Individual Artistic Gymnastics Championships are going on at the Polyvalent Hall in the Romanian northwestern city of Cluj-Napoca 60 years after Romania hosted the competition for the first time. Competing will be 274 gymnasts, 168 in mens events and 106 in womens events, hailing from 37 countries.

Ten gymnasts are representing Romania at the championships in Cluj-Napoca: Olivia Cimpian, Ioana Crisan, Larisa Iordache and Catalina Ponor in the womens events, as well as Marian Dragulescu, Cristian Bataga, Vlad Cotuna, Adelin Kotrong, Laurentiu Nistor and Andrei Ursache in the mens events.

The schedule comprises: Thursday - womens qualifications (10:00hrs-20:30hrs); Friday - mens all-around final (13:00hrs -15:45hrs), womens all-around final (17:30hrs-19:30hrs); Saturday - mens apparatus finals - floor, pommel horse and rings - womens apparatus finals - vault and uneven bars (13:30hrs-16:40hrs); Sunday - mens apparatus finals - vault, parallel bars and horizontal bars - womens apparatus finals - beam and floor (13:30hrs-16:40hrs).
