Bucharest, Jan 3 /Agerpres/ - The pairing of Romanian Raluca Olaru and Ukrainian Olga Savchuk on Tuesday advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA Shenzhen (China) tournament featuring 626,750 dollars in prize money, while the duo Simona Halep - Monica Niculescu lost in the first round.
No. 3 favorites Olaru - Savchuk defeated China's Ying-Ying Duan/Qiang Wang in 62 minutes 6-2, 6-2, securing 3,852 dollars and 60 WTA points. They will play next Chinese duo Liang Chen/Lu Jing-Jing.
Last year's finalists, No. 4 seeds Halep - Niculescu unexpectedly bowed out to Russians Natela Dzalamidze/Veronika Kudermetova 3-6, 3-6, in 68 minutes.
Second favorite Halep will play in the singles' round of sixteen Czech Katerina Siniakova; seed No. 7 Monica Niculescu lost on Tuesday to Qiang Wang 7-6 (1), 6-4.
