Bucharest, July 24 /Agerpres/ - The first athletes in Romania's Olympic team on Sunday morning took off from the Henri Coanda Airport in Bucharest for Rio de Janeiro, to attend the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, August 5-21.
The 13 athletes and 2 alternates are part of the boxing, judo, fencing, athletics and swimming roasters: Mihai Nistor (boxing, men's cat. + 91 kg); Daniel Natea (judo, men's cat. +100 kg); Mircea Alexandru Croitoru (judo, men's cat. +100 kg, sparring partner); Malina Calugareanu (women's foil individual), Tiberiu Dolniceanu (men's sabre individual), Simona Gherman, Simona Pop, Ana-Maria Popescu (all three women's epee individual and team); Loredana Dinu (alternate - women's epee team); Mihai Donisan (high jump), Robert Glinta (swimming, 100 m backstroke), Norbert Trandafir (swimming, 50 m freestyle, men's 4x100 m freestyle relay), Marius Radu (swimming, 100 m free style, men's 4x100 m freestyle relay), Alin Coste (swimming, men's 4x100 m freestyle relay), Daniel Macovei (swimming, men's 4x100 m freestyle relay).
Team Romania will leave for Rio de Janeiro in ten batches, with the next ones scheduled for departure on July 27, July 29, August 1, August 2, August 4 , August 6, August 7, August 8 and August 12.
Competing for Romania will be 97 athletes and 7 alternates in 15 disciplines, with the athletics and rowing delegations being the largest, at 23 and 18, respectively.
