Bucharest, June 19 /Agerpres/ - Historian Mihnea Berindei has died on Sunday morning, in Venice, said, for AGERPRES, former director of the Romanian National Archives Dorin Dobrincu.
"I lost a dear friend. Other words are unnecessary," said Dobrincu on his Facebook page.
Mihnea Berindei was born on 22 March 1948 in Bucharest and graduated from the History Faculty of the University of Bucharest in 1970, majoring in the history of the Ottoman Empire.
He moved to France where he graduated, in 1972, the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes (EPHE).
After the fall of the communist regime, Mihnea Berindei was involved in the creation of the Group for Social Dialogue and in the 00's he participated in the restitution for historians of the archives of the Romanian Communist Party.
He was part of the Presidential Committee for the Investigation of the Communist Dictatorship in Romania.
He was the son of historian and member of the Romanian Academy Dan Berindei. AGERPRES
