Bucharest, Jan 13 /Agerpres/ - As of January 14 Bucharest will be joining the exclusive club of European spas with tradition in the use of thermal waters such as Rome, Vienna, Budapest, following an investment of about 50 million euros in the Therme complex located on the outskirts of the northern city.

Bucharest Therme is the largest thermal complex in Europe; a greenfield project, it stretches on an area of 250,000 square meters, has an indoor area of 30,000 square meters and a capacity of 4,000 people. The thermal water comes from a depth of over 3,100 meters; the facility also houses the largest botanical garden in Romania with over 800,000 plants, some of them extremely rare, such as the tree of life.

"Therme Bucharest is designed for a seismic magnitude of 9 degrees on the Richter scale. We expect between 800,000 and 1 million visitors in the first year. The facility has an extremely high energy efficiency, and its energy independence is ensured 320 out of 365 days a year. In terms of energy efficiency, Therme Bucharest runs on its own resources to an extent of 90 percent," said Stelian Iacob, the center manager.

Bucharest thus advances to Europe's second largest thermal city after the oldest historically documented thermal city on the continent, Rome.

At Therme Bucharest, geothermal water is brought to the surface from a depth of over 3,100 meters. The drill is a double premiere for modern Romania as the deepest thermal water well drilled after 1989 and for using a revolutionary technology that preserves all the physical and chemical qualities of the water up to ground surface. The absolute novelty in the Spa & Wellness area is represented by the six themed saunas and a steam bath.

The Galaxy area accommodates the most spectacular indoor slide system in Central and Southeastern Europe; having a total length of 1.5 kilometers and departure platforms 14 meters high, it is designed to provide multiple entertainment opportunities for all ages. The area is fitted out with 16 waterslides, of which 7 for children, 2 slides which "break through" the roof of the building, interactive slides with dynamic lighting, "Racer" slides where up to 3 participants can compete simultaneously, and "Crazy River", with a water flow rate of over 2,500 cubic meters / hour.
