Bucharest, Jan 9 /Agerpres/ - Monica Niculescu on Saturday succeeded this year's first win for Romanian tennis, defeating together with US partner Vania King Seed No. 1, Chinese pair Xu Yi-Fan / Zheng Saisai 6-1, 6-4, in the doubles event of the Shenzhen (China) WTA Open featuring 426,750 US dollars in total prize money.
For their win Monica Niculescu and Vania King were rewarded with a cheque of 17,724 dollars and 280 WTA points.
Monica Niculescu previously won the Shenzhen doubles in 2014, when she paired with Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic.
This is Niculescu's fifth WTA doubles title after the one claimed in 2009 in Budapest (in pairing with Russian Alisa Kleybanova), the 2012 Hobart Open (with Irina Begu) and the two secured in 2014 at the Shenzhen and Hobart tournaments, both in a duo with Koukalova.
Monica Niculescu also played another 12 WTA doubles finals in her career.
This is Vania King's 15th doubles title. AGERPRES
