Bucharest, Sept 17 /Agerpres/ - At a swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday, at the US Department of State, the next US ambassador to Romania Hans G. Klemm hailed the efforts of Romania to root out high-level corruption, mentioning the country's "extended, serious effort," the Romanian Embassy in the US reports in a press statement.
Also attending the swearing-in ceremony, conducted by US Secretary of State John Kerry, was Romania's designated ambassador to the US George Cristian Maior.
"In his remarks to the ceremony, State Secretary Kerry presented Romania as a trustful ally of the US, underscoring the excellent relationship between the two countries as well as their cooperation in promoting regional and global stability. Kerry also underscored cooperation between the US and Romania as part of the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also spoke about economic and commercial ties between the US and Romania being deepened, pointing out that Romania has one of Europe's highest economic growth rates," the embassy reports.
It also quotes Kerry as hailing Romania's firm commitment to the adherence to the rule of law and a sustained campaign to combat corruption, which is an example for the neighboring countries.
"In his turn, the next US ambassador to Romania Hans G. Klemm underscored the excellent bilateral relationship between Romania and the US, saying that Romania is a friend, a strategic partner and a stalwart ally. Klemm mentioned that upon taking charge of the embassy in Bucharest, he will focus on furthering economic relations between Romania and the US.
