Bucharest, April 7 /Agerpres/ - The performance by actors of the "Marin Sorescu" National Theatre of Craiova of Silviu Purcarete's "A Tempest" - an adaptation of William Shakespeare's eponymous play - at the 33rd edition of the Izmir International Theatre Festival was received with great interest by the local public.
According to a release of the Romanian Cultural Institute "Dimitrie Cantemir" - Istanbul branch, the nearly 850 spectators in the Buyuk Anadolu Hall of the Tepekule Convention and Exhibition Centre of Izmir "gave the outstanding performance staged by famous Silviu Purcarete a standing ovation minutes on end, on both days of the show."
Both performances on April 2 and 3 were sold out, with high-profile names of the Turkish and international theater, directors, actors, reviewers and theater historians attending.
"The first performance of the Romanian theater troupe left such a powerful impression on the Turkish audience that they intensely promoted it by posting pictures on all communication channels and social media, and called friends to next day's show," Iskender Altin, the organizer of the festival, is cited in the release.
The same source mentions that Professors Ozdemir Nutku and Hulya Nutku, founders of the theater department of the Fine Arts Faculty of the Dokuz Eylül University of Izmir, said that "A Tempest" is "the most impressive show played to this day in the city of Izmir and voiced their admiration for the talent of the actors, the inventive sets and director Silviu Purcarete's brilliant staging vision."
Izmir Theater Festival has a long tradition in Turkey, spanning no less than 33 years, and the last three international editions were organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. The participants in this year's edition (March 27 - April 10) were from Romania, Bulgaria, Italy, Albania and Turkey. AGERPRES
