Bucharest, April 26 /Agerpres/ - European Parliament President Martin Schultz, the candidate of the Party of European Socialists (PES) to the office of European Commission President on Friday paid a visit to the platform at Magurele (south-east of Bucharest), the site of the works for building the most important research facility of Romania - ELI-NP (the very high intensity laser).
Martin Schulz was accompanied by Minister Delegate for Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technological Development Mihnea Costoiu and by Deputies' Chamber Speaker Valeriu Zgonea.
'I am deeply impressed with this high-standard unique place. (...) What I have seen here impressed me very much. I congratulate you for what you have done. It is an example of collaboration in the EU for high-class research, leading to European development and investments. It is an enormous progress not only for Romania, but also for the EU, which has invested a lot of money in this place. To be honest, I must say that I did not understand everything that you explained. I tried, but what is here is a real example of national and European cooperation, administrated from a political level, creating the framework for high-quality research, an example of development for the future,' Martin Schulz said.
Mihnea Costoiu voiced his conviction that the construction would be completed in May 2015, according to schedule, followed by the equipment set up. AGERPRES
