Bucharest, Jan 21 /Agerpres/ - Two people have died following the crash of an aircraft Monday afternoon in the Apuseni Mountains. The cause of death of pilot Adrian Iovan is traumatic shock combined with hypothermia, and resident doctor Aurelia Ion lost her life because of hypothermia combined with respiratory disorders, caused by a trauma, reveal the results of the autopsy conducted by the Alba Forensic Medical Service.
Forensic pathologist Gheorghe Vieru said that Adrian Iovan sustained a traumatic shock caused by lower limb fractures and multiple rib fractures, including a liver rupture.
Vieru stated that neither the pilot, nor the resident sustained internal bleeding.
When asked if the two victims would have had a chance of survival, if they had been found sooner, the forensic expert said it is hard to tell.
"It is hard to tell because we do not have all the data, including the lab results, to confirm us the macroscopic diagnosis. (...) The equipment inside the ambulance is very important, if the ambulance was there. It is very hard to determine. We shall expand the inquiry and we shall be able to provide more precise data," said the head of the Alba Forensic Medical Service.
Gheorghe Vieru said that as regards the cause of death of the pilot, "there were various causes, hypothermia, rib fractures, lower limb fractures. As far as the young resident is concerned, she died from prolonged thoracic compression."
Pilot Adrian Iovan and resident doctor Aurelia Ion died late on Monday, following the aviation accident that occurred in the Ursoaia Mountain Pass in Cluj County (north-western Romania). The other five injured have been taken to the Cluj Emergency County Hospital. One of the injured, doctor Radu Zamfir, from the Bucharest-based Fundeni Hospital, the person who called the 112 emergency number to report the accident and gave first aid to the other victims, has been released from the Cluj hospital.
