IMF to work with any government, says Jeffrey Franks

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will work with any government, said in the Parliament the head of the IMF mission to Romania, Jeffrey Franks, after Emil Boc announced that he had decided his Government's resignation.



Representatives of the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission and the World Bank participate in a meeting with the members of the Finance and Budget Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. Main topics discussed at the meeting refer to an information on the world macro-economic situation and subjects of direct interest to Romania, such as the health care reform and management of state companies, announced, prior to the meeting, the Committee president, Eugenia Barna.

According to parliamentary sources, the agenda of talks also included a presentation by Istvan Szekely, head of the European Commission mission to Romania, on the fiscal reform in Romania and another one on energy issues.

Representatives of the three financial institutions expressed satisfaction that the dialogue with the members of Parliament continues, for better knowing the situation in the country, emphasizing they are also informed by the civil society.

The IMF, WB and EC mission to Bucharest took place from January 24 to February 6, the fourth assessment of Romania's economic program. The International Monetary Fund experts and the authorities in Bucharest have reached an agreement, and the Fund is to make available a new tranche, of 505 million euros, after the Board's approval, at the end of March.

The Stand-By Agreement between Romania and the IMF began on March 31, 2011 and is one of a precautionary type, amounting to DST 3.1 billion, respectively 3.6 billion euros, representing about 300 percent of the share Romania holds in the IMF.AGERPRES
