Canoe/kayak WUC: Romania wins three gold medals in 500m finals

Romania won three gold medals in the C-2, C-4 and K-4, 500m events of the World University Championship in Poznan (Poland).



World champions Silviu Dumitrescu and Victor Mihalachi won the gold medal in the 500m event, after having reaped another gold medal on Saturday in the 1,000m final, with 1min 41sec 472/1000; they were followed in the ranking by Hungary - with 1min 42sec 440/1000; and Ukraine - 1min 45sec 960/1000.

The Romanian canoe crew of four (Florin Simion, Nicolae Bogdan, Florin Comanici, Gabriel Gheoca) won another gold medal in the 500m race, scoring 1min 35sec 846/1000, ahead of Hungary - 1min 36sec 618/1000 and Ukraine - 1min 37sec 114/1000.

The K-4 men's crew (Justin Porcarasu, Stefan Vasile, Traian Neagu and Toni Ioneticu) made it to the first step of the podium in the 500m event with a time of 1min 22sec 280/1000, followed by Belarus - 1min 22sec 860/1000 and Russia - 1min 24sec 224/1000.

In the K1 500m discipline, Dan Costea came in five, with the race won by the Slovak athlete Petter Gell; in the women's K2 500m competition, the Romanian crew (Nicoleta Tertis and Bianca Plesca) landed 6th position, whereas Serbia won the gold.AGERPRES
