Chief of the Public Mountain Rescue Service Hunedoara Ovidiu Bodean said that the avalanche risk exceeds 4 on a scale ranging from 1 to 5, as the fresh snow layer is thicker than 1.5 metres on the mountain slopes and it can be 2 or 3 metres when the blizzard blew the snow.
A first avalanche occurred near Rausor resort, the access road to it being blocked for a few hours. The access to the Rausor resort is difficult, requiring chains around the car tyres.
In Fagaras, the highest massif in the Romanian Carpathians, there is a maximum 5 risk of avalanches with the snow layer exceeding the thickness of 156 centimetres in Balea Lac area, at 2000 metres altitude, according to chief of the Public Mountain Rescue Service Arges Ion Sanduloiu.AGERPRES
