'Romania asks the new Ukrainian authorities, whom it recognizes as legitimate representatives of the country, to observe the rights of the persons belonging to national minorities,' President Traian Basescu said at the Cotroceni Palace.
Moreover, President Basescu underscored that the former Ukrainian President must hand in his resignation to allow finding solutions to the domestic and Russian-Ukrainian tensions.
'Romania believes that the measures taken by former president Yanukovych — the authorization to open fire with war ammunition against the population, as well as the abandonment of the national territory in a difficult moment for the country — place the President in the position of having lost the legitimacy conferred by the elections of 2010, and this is why he must immediately hand in his resignation, to allow finding a solution to the current domestic tensions, but also to the Russian-Ukrainian ones,' Basescu concluded.
