Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta welcomes the positive vote given on Thursday in the European Parliament for the liberalisation of short-stay visas for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova holding biometric passports.

At the same time, the Romanian Prime Minister voices his confidence in the fast conclusion of EU procedures, so that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova can benefit as soon as possible from the freedom of movement in the EU space, shows a Government release remitted to AGERPRES on Thursday.
Victor Ponta underscores that "the visa liberalisation is a measure Romania has supported in an extremely active manner, through its endeavours, and which will have a very concrete and positive impact for the Moldovan society and for each particular citizen."
The Prime Minister reiterates "the full support of the Romanian Government for Chisinau attaining its European objectives."
The European Parliament on Thursday voted in favour of the visa regime liberalisation for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova holding biometric passports, as the EP plenary adopted by a wide majority the report on 'Visa requirements for third-countries nationals' drawn up by MEP Tanja Fajon of the S&D Group.
The Republic of Moldova is the first country in the Eastern Partnership that will benefit from the liberalisation of the visa regime. AGERPRES
