Simona Halep rose to the 7th place in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) standings on Monday, thus equaling the best standing by a Romanian in the WTA charts, Irina Spirlea climbing to 7th place on October 13, 1997.

Halep, who rose two slots since last week and is only 55 points away from 6th place Angelique Kerber has managed to best her manager, Virginia Ruzici, who held the second-best performance by a Romania in the WTA chart at 8th place.
Halep (22 years old) is the author of one of the most spectacular jumps in professional women's tennis, winning in less than a year 7 WTA tournaments (Nuremberg, 's-Hertogenbosch, Budapest, New Haven, Moscow, Sofia, Doha) and climbing from the 64th spot (May 2013) to 7th.
Sorana Cirstea holds her ground at the 27th spot in the world, Monica Niculescu at 53rd, Alexandra Cadantu lost two spots and is now on 64th whereas Irina Begu managed to climb 22 positions and is now 123, attempting to climb back in the top 100.
Begu managed an 18-position leap in doubles as well, climbing to the 66th position courtesy of the title won in Rio de Janeiro. Niculescu is stationary at 63rd, whereas Raluca Olaru climbed to 62nd, her best position in the doubles' charts. AGERPRES
