The Sibiu Rally, a stage of the European Rally Championship (ERC), scheduled this year February 27 to March 1, on Transfagarasan Road, has been postponed for reasons of force majeure, mainly due to bad weather, a release issued for AGERPRES announces.
"After analyzing the route in winter conditions, the promoter of the event, supported by the ASN, promoter of the European Rally Championship Eurosport Events, has agreed with canceling the winter stage. Now, all efforts are focused to keep Romania in the European Championship Rally, at another time and in another format, with keeping the special stage on Transfagarasan Road in the programme," the organizers informed.
With 75% of the special stages at an altitude of 1,600 meters and one on Transfagarasan Road, at an altitude of 2,400 meters, the organizer of the rally considered that the safety of participants, officials and spectators would be at risk if the rally were held in the format proposed.
The local promoter has proposed an alternative format, exclusively on asphalt, with a length of 220 km, including the special stage on Transfagarasan Road, on October 9-11, 2014.
Following this proposal, Eurosport Events will analyze the new format and will decide whether to submit the new proposal to the FIA's Rally Commission, which will convene on March 12.AGERPRES
