DefMin: 300 troops, 14 intervention missions assisting Romanians hit by snowfalls, blizzard

Around 300 troops of the National Defence Ministry, equipped with 35 pieces of equipment carried out 14 intervention missions over the last 24 hours to assist the population hit by the snowfalls and blizzard, the ministry announced in a release to AGERPRES on Sunday.

It said that four actions are currently under way, in which over 40 military with six pieces of equipment are taking part. The ministry added that 50 troops with five trucks carrying food and water have left for the rural towns of Salciile and Boldesti Gradistea in the southern Prahova county.

"At a request of Braila County Prefect's Office, the 2nd Infantry Division military took part in searching for the missing persons in Gaiseanca, rescuing the two persons. The troops are taking action to clear the traffic on A1 and A2 motorway stretches and clear the snow on the local roads and national highways in the counties of Valcea, Buzau, Prahova (southern Romania) and Braila (eastern Romania). At Movila Banului rural town, the county of Buzau, the troops helped evacuate an expecting mother, who has already given birth, as well as a wounded person and several workers with the Romanian National Motorways and Highways Company in the rural town of Florica", the release said.
