The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over the escalation of violence in Ukraine and urged dialogue as the solution to the standoff, the Foreign Ministry informs in a release to AGERPRES.
"In the light of the recent developments in Ukraine and mainly in the capital city of the neighboring country, the Foreign Ministry expresses deep concern with the escalation of violence. In connection with this, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges dialogue as the only way out of the current situation and emphasizes the need to refrain from any measure or action that is likely to aggravate the situation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends condolences to the families of those who fell victim to the violent demonstrations in Kyiv in recent days. There can be no justification for the loss of human lives, much less through political arguments or rationale," the Foreign Ministry says.
According to the same source, the Romanian Foreign Ministry "fully subscribes to the statement of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on the events in Ukraine and joins in the call made by the European official in support of an open and comprehensive dialogue among the authorities, the political opposition and the civil society, as the only viable way to solve the situation in this country. At the same time, the Ministry backs the enhanced support through all diplomatic instruments the EU has decided to grant for the settlement of the current political crisis."
In this context, the Romanian Foreign Ministry deplores the manner and circumstances of the recent adoption by the Ukrainian Parliament of the legislative package that restricts citizen rights and freedoms, notably the freedom of expression and association.AGERPRES
