24 athletes to represent Romania at Sochi Winter Olympics

Romania will be represented by 24 athletes competing in 8 sport disciplines (alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon, ski jumping, figure skating, bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton) at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, between February 7 and 23, after the two-woman bobsleigh team was also accepted on Thursday, the head of the Romanian delegation to the Games Alexandru Epuran told AGERPRES.

Romanian athletes will compete in 8 of the 15 sport disciplines scheduled at these Olympics.

As already announced, biathlete Eva Tofalvy, participating for the 5th time, will bear the Romanian flag at the opening ceremony of the Games, on February 7.

Follows the complete list of the national team to be sent to Russia:

Alpine skiing — Alexandru Barbu (men's giant slalom and slalom) , Ioan Valeriu Achiriloaie (men's downhill), Ania Caill (women's super-G, slalom, combined slalom);

Cross-country skiing — women: Timea Sara; men: Paul Pepene, Florin Daniel Pripici;

Biathlon — women: Eva Tofalvi, men: Cornel Puchianu;

Ski jumping (men) — Iulian Pitea;

Figure skating (men) — Zoltan Kelemen;

Skeleton — men: Dorin Velicu; women: Maria Mazilu;

Luge — Valentin Cretu (men's singles, team relay), Nicolae Radu Sovaiala and Alexandru Teodorescu (men's doubles, team relay), Raluca Stramaturaru (women's singles, team relay).

Bobsleigh — Nicolae Istrate and Florin Craciun (two-man); Andreas Neagu, Paul Muntean, Danut Moldovan, Bogdan Otava (four-man); Maria Constantin and Andreea Grecu (two-woman).

At the previous edition of the Olympic Winter Games in 2010, in Vancouver (Canada), Romania was represented by 28 athletes.

The Romanian delegation is scheduled to leave for Sochi on January 28. AGERPRES
