Romania will continue to contribute to international efforts to ease the humanitarian situation caused by the Syrian crisis, Romanian Foreign Ministry Secretary of State for Global Affairs Mihail Dobre said at the second high-level International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria held in Kuwait.
According to a release the Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE) sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday, Mihail Dobre voiced the concern of the Bucharest authorities about the deteriorating situation in Syria, stressing that Romania supports the political settlement of the crisis to end violence in Syria and launch a peaceful transition towards a democratic governing system, taking into consideration all confessional groups of the Syrian society and respecting Syria's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
The Conference aimed to rally international financial support to fund humanitarian operations meant to ease the suffering of the Syrian people affected by the worst humanitarian crisis the United Nations has ever faced. As an expression of the international community's solidarity with Syria and with the countries hosting Syrian refugees, donors pledged more than 2.4 billion dollars for this year to assist Syrians in need.
The second high-level International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria was chaired by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and hosted by the Emir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. AGERPRES
